READY TO CRAWL

Bio-like robots made by 3D printing.
By printing all parts, excluding the motor, as one, the robots are born with completed shapes, like creatures. After robots are printed by a Selective Laser Sintering machine, excessive nylon powder is removed and a motor is inserted and then robots begin to crawl.
In general, 3Dprinting is less precise and not suitable for making transmission mechanism parts. However, this work discovered that, by using characteristics of 3Dprinting, such as complex surfaces and flexible structures, bio-like movements, such as the smoothness and the flexibility, can be realized by simple transmission mechanisms. These mechanisms are combined on 3DCAD and various robots that have different movements are developed.
This work show the possibility of “the Design of Motion” in 3Dprinting and also evoke the machines in the future that are born being ready to crawl like creatures.
